Adding formula to plant fields

I'm a little unclear on what the Density refers to.  Currently, the schedule and the plant label can include a groundcover Density, defined as the number of plants per square meter.  If you could clarify what exactly it is, that would help.

We don't have the ability to put a formula into a user field currently.  The entire system would need rather intensive changes, as currently the field values are simply chosen from a dropdown list.  Formulas would need to be ideally grouped together, and have a display value other than the equation.  And of course the tools to edit it from the Plant Sizes Preferences screen, and then to have the Manager, Edit Plant, Schedule, and Labeling tools all correctly respect it.  Just saying that in terms of implementing it, it is unfortunately a rather involved project.

So if I can understand more of what you are after, we might be able to come up with some sort of solution.

sorry if i was unclear, yes i am talking about the density as the number of plants per square meter

You will find attached a customized plant label that i made, i want those data to be be shown in the plant label; The area, the plant abbreviation , the density per m2, and the total density.

i know that if i added the plant spacing and the actual size pf the plant , that the quantity here will represent the total density, but i want to show the area too in the label including the density/m2

so, Is there a way that i can do this label using landfx?

Is there a way to calculate the total density automatically and show it on the plant label

I think the best way to do that would be to use a formula in Excel.

I came up with the following:

=ROUND(1000 * SQRT(1 / (A1 * 0.866 * 1.1111)), 0)

With that in an Excel sheet, I entered 3.2 as the Density into cell A1, and it reported the Spacing as 570mm.

Thanks a lot Jeremiah, Ive tried the new update in the attributes of the AREA and the DENSITY, They worked.

Also the equation is perfect but can u tell me what does the 1.1111 refer to ?

The 1.1111 multiplier is what we found is necessary for more accurate quantities.  Without it, the true triangular spacing equation is essentially counting half-plants at each edge.  You can read more on this here.

i think i went through similar sitiuation that i placed shrubs as individuals and needed the area of these shrubs.. and needed to do calculations using the apace of each plant to get the area of each shrub..

and was wodering that in land f/x planting if we placed shrubs as areas we are able through the schedule to generate the quantities of the shrubs..

but the oppsite is not available

that if we placed the shrubs in quantities, i couldnt through the schedule to get the area of these shrubs..

There's actually a great trick to calculating the area of shrubs, by using our Plant Outlines feature.  This is shown at 1:15 in this Power Tip video.
