Newbie question about best practice for files coming from other vendors.
I got a DWG from the architect on my project, which I have nuked for safety. However, when I try to plot, the lineweights are kind of funky. I assume that's because the layer definitions are different.
Is it better to convert the DWG to a PDF and Xref a version of that--instead of trying to Xref the DWG? I don't need to manipulate the architect's drawing--just need to have it for reference.

I recommend continuing to xref the architect's drawing in, but using the Layer Properties manager in your main drawing to change the properties of the xref layers. Don't change the layers in the architect's original file.
This way, if they send a new version, you can just NUKE that, have the same xref point to that file instead, and the same layer colour changes will still be in place.
Using an xref will always be a better and more flexible choice in AutoCAD than a PDF underlay.
