We use a shared online folder (Dropbox) for our Land F/X installations and data.  We are considering moving to Microsoft OneDrive.  While reading your documentation for "Install Land F/X (Cloud Data) on a Shared Online Folder..."  Link here: https://www.landfx.com/kb/installation/landfx/item/3505-shared-online-folder.html   I came across "Important Notes:  We have seen issues with Microsoft OneDrive Sync in conjunction with Share Point."   Can you elaborate on this?  What issues have you seen?  Are they of particular concern?  Thanks for any feedback.

Tom,

Thanks for sharing your experience!  This is exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping to hear--direct experiences from those working with OneDrive.

I hate that you're running into difficulty with inconsistent syncs.  So far I have not had that trouble (knocks on wood).  One frustrating thing I've noticed that did not occur when on Dropbox is when I edit a detail that has already been saved into Land F/X, OneDrive will not sync the file until the file is completely closed.  Lots of times when working on a detail that is already in the system, I will use Land F/X's "Save Detail" periodically (say every 10 minutes or so) just to make sure changes aren't lost if my computer crashes or something.  Well, OneDrive will not sync if the file is open.  I have to "Save Detail" and then close the detail; at that point the OneDrive will sync and I can reopen the detail.  This only takes a matter of seconds, but it is frustrating.

It's only been a few weeks on OneDrive for me.  So far, I reasonably pleased even though its not perfect.  Works fine so far for our two-person office and with my home computer that I sometimes use for work.

Hi Rob,

I recently upgraded to O365/Business, and have had some trouble.  I'm a one-man shop, but I sync between my desktop, laptop, and iOS devices.  For whatever reason, OD will sometimes just. not. sync.  I have to unlink, then re-link my account, then wait for OD to run through everything to sync all that I want it to.  I'm constantly checking my OD web app to see if my local files are syncing to the cloud.  And yes, I get sharepoint notices when I, for example, delete a bunch of files.  So sharepoint is involved.  Somehow.  I've lost plenty of time to this, including phone calls from tech support (at least those guys are quick and helpful, and it's included in the subscription).

I had some trouble with file migration too.  Like, files disappearing trouble.

I still have my SugarSync account--I may go back to that (it's excellent and the syncing seamless) if OD doesn't start behaving consistently.  Fortunately, those "disappeared" files were backed up to SS.

Hope your experience goes much more smoothly!

Jeremiah,

I'm somewhat unsure.  Right now I have a trial subscription to Office 365 Business Premium, which I plan on purchasing soon.  That plan includes both OneDrive and Sharepoint, but I'm not certain that OneDrive here is completely separate from Sharepoint or whether they are somehow integrated.  I have noticed that when I click the OneDrive application icon and select "View Online," the url includes the word "sharepoint."  On the surface, OneDrive appears to function very similarly to what I'm used to with Dropbox, but there may be something I'm not seeing.  I've planned on doing some more research on the Office 365 side of things, but have not yet had the time.

Rob,

It is only in conjunction with Share Point that has the issue.  Do you have Share Point?

Thanks, Brian, for the explanation.  That's a bummer.  I may test it out using OneDrive by itself, but now I'm a little wary.

If there are others out there with direct experience with this issue in practice, I'd love to hear your experiences.
