Meredith,

In the upper right area of the Plant Manager is the Placed/Unplaced checkboxes.
Next to those is a Refresh button, you can click that to update the Placed status to reflect what is in the current drawing.
Then select Unplaced, and you can shift-click to select all unplaced plants and delete them.
