Huston,  We have a problem.

Somehow one of our preference sets is being modified by someone not having Write permission. We've checked the preference permissions and this person is not supposed to be able to modify the set. And, the reason that this person is modifying it, is to set it back to our standard. Which means that someone that is uneducated is modifying the set and doesn't know that they are affecting others.

Please provide insight.

Okay.... With your guidance we were able to find out that some users were creating details NOT using our Detail Preference set. The permissions were different in that set. We have made the necessary modifications and are once again running smoothly and are on course. Thank you Sir.

Can't provide any insight without more information.

What are they changing?

Once we know that, we can see if we can replicate it, and then see if it's a simple as a bug fix.

We know that they are changing the font style (font, width and size.)

I'm afraid I can't replicate.

With permissions set to Read-Only, those dialog box elements are correctly disabled.

Okay. But on our end we can duplicate it. This user can modify the preferences all day.

See attached. We can try others if necessary.

BTW, we have it set to "By User" since we have people in various offices that need to be able to modify the preference sets. They are educated in the affects of modifications.

That user will need to copy and paste the following to the AutoCAD command line, to see what CAD sees as the user name:

(getenv "USERNAME")

Wait. This is not the person that's even messing it up. As I said earlier, this person is "repairing" it (even though he's not supposed to be able to) after some unknown person has been wrongly modifying it. What we really need to do is have it only the four people that are permissioned to do so modify the prefference sets. How can we do that? BTW, all users have user names when they log in. This person's user name is jchannell. Mine is scook. That's how we have to log in. Maybe you can call me. Should I fill out a technical help ticket?

You're welcome to fill out a ticket.

With a remote session, we would just confirm the username and the preference set.

--J

Ok. How will you find the real culprit that is inadvertently changing the preference set?

jchannell

is the result

We would need to remote into jchannell's machine, to see what is enabling them to make changes.

We would also use the opportunity to tell them to stop doing that, lol.
