Want to change the symbol for any of our irrigation equipment types, whether you've saved your custom symbols into the system or simply want to use one of our other default symbols for a given component? Here's how the symbols for our different irrigation equipment types are assigned symbols, and how to change them.
You can choose to edit any of our default symbols to create your own custom symbols if you want to incorporate your own office standards. See our documentation on editing our default irrigation symbols.
Heads (Rotor, Rotary, Spray, Bubbler, Emitters)
All our head or emitter types use symbol families to be all inclusive of the nozzles that come with a particular piece of equipment.
Rotors
When adding a rotor to a project in the Irrigation Manager for the first time, you'll be prompted to pick the symbol style that will be assigned to that rotor.
Once a rotor has been added to the project and placed in a drawing, you can use our Edit Equipment tool to select a new symbol style.
In this example, we'll select a hexagonal symbol.
The system will swap out all placed rotor heads with the new symbol.
Sprays
We've updated our spray symbols as of 2021 to allow you to select a family and symbol on the fly when adding a spray head to your project. Spray symbol families are no longer tied to your Preference Sets. In addition, you can add add up to 9 turf and shrub spray head types to your project as you need, and are no longer limited to 2 turf sprays and 4 shrub sprays per project.
You'll be able to assign a symbol family to a spray head as you add it to your project in the Irrigation Manager.
As mentioned above, you no longer need to verify the correct symbol family in the Irrigation Preferences. In fact, we've removed the Spray Symbols section from the Irrigation Preferences entirely!
If you want to change the symbol family assigned to a spray head but not change the head itself, select the equipment using our Edit Equipment tool, then click the symbol thumbnail and select the new symbol style you want.
Want to know about the three types of spray symbols (Arc Rotates, Symbol Rotates, No Rotation)? See our updated spray symbol library documentation.
Add that same model back to your project, and the system will go through the plan and update to the new selected symbol family.
Rotaries
When adding a rotary head to a project for the first time, you'll be prompted to select your symbol style that will be assigned to that rotary.
Note that changing rotaries is a bit trickier because they require several equipment pieces to download at a time.
If you select the wrong symbol style but have not placed that rotary in the drawing yet, delete all line items of that equipment from the Irrigation Manager and add back to pick the right symbol style.
If you have placed the rotary in your drawing, send us a technical support ticket detailing your issue, and we can help get you straightened out.
Bubblers/Emitters
When adding a bubbler or emitter to a project for the first time, you'll be prompted to select the symbol family style for that piece of equipment.
Bubbler symbols, examples
Emitter symbols, examples
If you want to change a symbol family style out for a bubbler or emitter without changing the actual piece of equipment, select it using our Edit Equipment tool, then click the symbol thumbnail and select the symbol family you want to use.
Area for Dripline and Area for Drip Emitters
We have several hatch pattern styles to represent these equipment types, and the system will auto-assign the hatch based on its alphabetical listing in the system.
Area for Drip Emitter hatches
Area for Dripline hatches
If you want to change the hatch assigned to one of these drip areas, use our Edit Equipment tool and click the symbol thumbnail.
One of the symbol selection dialog boxes pictured above will open, and you can then select the hatch pattern of your choice.
All Other Equipment Types (Valves, Controllers, Accessories, Etc.)
Because these equipment types do not depend on a style to keep several entities tied together, they offer more flexibility for you to simply change the symbol when editing the given equipment and select a new symbol.
The same logic applies here as with Area for Dripline and Areas for Drip Emitters: As you add a piece of equipment to your project, the system will auto-assign the next symbol in the list. The images below show examples of valve symbols.
To change the symbol style, use our Edit Equipment tool, click the thumbnail, and select your desired symbol.
