Change the Symbol Image in a Revit® Schedule
Issue
When using our Planting F/X Plugin for Revit, you'd like to change the schedule symbol image in some way to match the placed symbol as placed in your Revit plan. For example, you may have:
- Customized the family for this project
- Made a custom family entirely
- Decided you'd like to show your selected color render
The best method we've found for showing these images in the Revit Schedule is to use the same JPG or PNG that we use in our symbol selection dialog boxes as assigned to the image name and location to that same JPG or PNG. We're still working on a method to take these images automatically in Revit.
Solution
You can change the schedule symbol image by editing the JPG or PNG that matches the corresponding family or hatch symbol. Images can be found in your linked library folder for Planting F/X. You can simply open them in an image editing platform such as Photoshop and change them as needed.
The changes you'll make to the image will depend on whether you need to make a consistent change for a plant in template, or just for the current project.
For a permanent, consistent change for all projects using this symbol:
Overwrite the JPG or PNG in the library folder. You'll need to repeat this step within the library folder corresponding to each year of Revit you use.
Be aware that overwriting this image will change how the image appears in the symbol selection dialog box, which uses the same file.
For only this project:
Select the Manage Links option in the Revit Insert ribbon.
Select the link for the image, then click Reload From. Point the link to your edited image instead.
