Unable to Move Past Update Land F/X Dialog Box (Academic License)
Issue
You tried to open AutoCAD, but the Update Land F/X dialog box popped up and you are unable to close it, click Cancel, continue, or do anything within AutoCAD.
Cause
You have an Academic license whose support has expired. Each academic institution with Land F/X licenses will have a new Support ID each academic term. That Support ID will expire when the term ends, causing this issue.
Solution
1. Open your Start menu and type Task Manager in the search field.
Select the Task Manager option from the menu.
2. The Task Manager will open. Select AutoCAD Application, and click End Task.
3. Open the LandFX folder on your C: drive.
Locate the file _install_.xml, and open it using a text editing application such as Notepad.
4. Change the value in the update_check line from 2 to 0, as pictured to the right.
Save and close the file.
You should now be able to open AutoCAD without hanging up on the Update Land F/X dialog box.
Alternative Method
Not comfortable editing the _install_.xml file? You can also resolve the issue by renaming the file LandFX.vlx (also located in the LandFX folder on your C: drive). Give this file the name LandFXold.vlx.
You can then open AutoCAD and continue working.
