Dialog Box Text is Missing or Looks Strange

Issue

The text in one of our dialog boxes looks strange, or is simply missing.

For example, the plant symbol categories may be missing from the top of the Planting dialog box, as pictured below ...

... when the top of the dialog box should look like this:

Cause

This issue is usually the result of a corrupt font on your computer.

Solution

To correct the problem, follow our steps to fix a corrupt font.

Many of our dialog boxes use the Arial Narrow font. When you check for specific fonts that may have become corrupt, Arial Narrow is a good place to start. For example, the Planting dialog box, pictured above, looks for Arial Narrow (ArialN.ttf). If this font is missing, or if its filename includes extra characters, the dialog box will try to use the font Romans.shx. You should be able to fix the dialog box font by making sure the font is installed on your computer and editing the Registry listing for the corrupt font.
