The Program Can't Start Because api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll is Missing from Your Computer (Opening AutoCAD or F/X CAD)

Issue

When launching AutoCAD or F/X CAD, you saw the following error message:

The program can't start because api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

Cause

This error message is the result of a problem with Windows 10.

Solution

1. Update Windows.

2.  Download and install Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for your Windows version:

• Windows x64 (most cases)
   
• Windows x86 (rarer)

You may need to select Uninstall first before you can install one of the downloads.

3. Restart your computer and open CAD again.

Still getting the error? Move on to Step 4.

4. Download and install the Windows 10 SDK kit.

5.  Copy all DLLs from the following location:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\Redist\ucrt\DLLs\x64

6.  Paste the copied DLL files into the same folder location where AutoCAD or F/X CAD 2017 is installed on your computer (in most cases: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2017).

7.  Open CAD again.
