Character (Letter) Automatically Appearing in Command Line When You Use a One- or Two-Letter Command Shortcut
Issue
When trying to use a one- or two-letter AutoCAD command shortcut, you are noticing that the last letter you typed before pressing Enter (or the space bar) is appearing automatically in the Command line at the end of the next command.
For example, let's say you tried to type L for Line.
Normally, when you type L and press Enter, you should receive the following command:
Specify first point.
If you are experiencing the issue referenced above, the scenario will be a little different. If you type L for Line, for example, the letter L will be appearing automatically after the Specify first point command, as pictured below.
Why is this a problem? Because in order to continue with the command, you'll need to delete this letter each time it appears – not exactly the way to draw quickly on the fly.
Cause
This issue can result from:
- A problem with a wireless keyboard such as low batteries or a poor connection, or ...
- A corrupted Autodesk user profile
Solution
Step 1 (Wireless Keyboard Users): Troubleshoot Your Wireless Keyboard
Are you using a wireless keyboard? If so, check the batteries and the connection with your computer – or switch to a wired keyboard.
If you are sure your wireless keyboard is functioning correctly, or you are not using a wireless keyboard, proceed to Step 2.
Step 2: Repair Your CAD Installation
If you are sure the problem isn't resulting from a malfunctioning wireless keyboard, you can correct the issue by repairing your CAD installation.
Open CAD. You should now be able to use one- or two-letter commands without an issue.
