Don't Want to Renew Your Land F/X Subscription? Here's What You Need to Know & Do
You're here because you've chosen not to renew your Planting F/X, Design F/X, or Irrigation F/X license subscription, but you want to continue using the software and accessing your project data. Or your license subscription is either expired or about to expire, and you're wondering how you can keep working.
Are you planning to renew a license that's expired, or about to expire? If so, here's what to do
If you opt out of the yearly renewal fee, you'll lose access to our top-notch tech support as well as training, re-installation capability, the latest version updates, and everything in our cloud database (plants, blocks, details, etc.). However, you will still be able to use our software and maintain your project data.

What happens if I choose not to renew my subscription?
If you opt out of the yearly subscription renewal fee, you'll lose access to our top-notch tech support as well as training, re-installation capability, the latest version updates, and everything in our cloud database (plants, blocks, details, etc.). However, you will still be able to use our software and maintain your project data – provided you follow the "What do I need to do?" steps below – before your license expires.
If you have multiple licenses, you're free to let one or more of them expire without renewing. Keep in mind that if you do so, any seats you don’t renew will be removed from your license pool. You can add those licenses back to your pool later at the cost of the number of years’ worth of support you skipped, up to the current price of a new license.
F/X CAD Users
F/X CAD will not function without a current Land F/X license. For each seat of F/X CAD you want to continue using, you’ll need to remain current on a Land F/X license to accompany it. (It’s how we’re able to offer F/X CAD at such a low cost.) F/X CAD is a product we’re able to offer to our existing clients – which means you need to be an existing client to use it.
You can choose to downgrade your Land F/X license in order to keep using F/X CAD. For example, if you currently have an Irrigation F/X license but don’t need our irrigation tools, you can choose to convert that license to a Planting F/X or Design F/X license (and lose access to the irrigation tools) for a lower renewal price.
If you’re only using our software because you want cheap AutoCAD (i.e., F/X CAD), remember that you can buy AutoCAD LT from Autodesk instead. If you’re not seeing the payoff in Land F/X, we invite you to call us and talk to us. We may be able to show you some ways our software can benefit you, potentially making it worth the renewal price many times over.
What do I need to do if I choose not to renew one or more of my licenses?
Quick video
If you don't want to renew but you want to continue using the software (despite the reduced functionality and access to the services listed above), you'll need to complete a specific set of steps. The process you'll need to follow will depend on whether your office has Cloud or Local Data.
Don't know whether you have Cloud or Local Data? Here's how to find out.
Offices with Cloud Data
If your office has Cloud Data, our software will simply not function at all if you allow your license to expire. You won't have access to our tools, or your Land F/X data – including your projects and Preference Sets. However, we can help you switch to a Local Data setup, which will allow you to continue working even after you expire.
If you have Cloud Data and you don't want to renew your license (or if your license is already expired), please complete the following steps:
1. Contact our office and let us know that you are choosing not to renew your license. We will help you switch to Local Data in order to continue working. We will help you switch to a Local Data installation, and you'll be able to use our software.
2. Now that you're on Local Data, follow our Offices with Local Data instructions below. Those steps will allow you to access your projects and Preference Sets. However, please note that you will still not have access to tech support, updates, and re-installations.
It's especially important to complete the Local Data steps if your office currently has Cloud Data and is planning on not renewing. If you choose not to renew, you'll lose your cloud licensing capability. As a result, you'll be unable to use the software and access your project data. Until you switch to a local installation, including a functioning MySQL engine, you will be locked out of Land F/X and your project data.
Offices with Local Data
If your office has Local Data and doesn't want to renew, here's what you need to do:
1. Follow our steps to install the MySQL database engine on your computer.
2. Transfer your projects and other Land F/X data.
3. Maintain your MySQL installation, and back it up, along with your Land F/X data!
Remember: If your computer goes down and you don't have a Cloud installation (and you haven't backed up your Land F/X data), you'll no longer have access to all the projects you've created using our software.
