AutoCAD, F/X CAD, or Civil 3D Crashes or Freezes, or is Slow or Unresponsive
Issue
When you start AutoCAD or open a drawing, it's crashing, freezing, or is generally slow or unresponsive. You may also be experiencing an unresponsive or frozen cursor.
You might see the message: Error: The application was unable to start correctly.
Causes & Solutions
AutoCAD, F/X CAD, or Civil 3D can become unresponsive for any number of reasons, or accompanied by a variety of possible error messages. Here are links to a few, including their solutions:
F/X CAD 2022
We've seen the following issues with F/X CAD 2022:
- CAD freezes when you use a Multileader (MLeader) label tool.
- CAD freezes when editing multiline text (Mtext), or running the MTEXT command.
Both of these issues are the result of two components having been incorrectly flagged as already installed during F/X CAD 2022 installations and, as such, being skipped during installation.
If you experience either of these issues while using F/X CAD 2022, here's the solution.
Note that we've updated the F/X CAD 2022 installer to correct this issue, so future installations should not have this problem.
AutoCAD, F/X CAD, or Civil 3D 2017:
We've seen the following instances of CAD crashing that are particular to the 2017 version:
