Disassociate or Remove a Detail Folder from a Project or Detail Category
Issue
You need to disassociate (remove) a detail folder from a project, or from one of the other detail category folders.
Scenario 1:
For example, let's say you tried to browse from the Project Manager to assign a detail folder to the project Awesome Waterslide Park.
However, when you tried to associate the project with the detail folder Awesome Waterslide Park, you saw a message that That category is already being used by another project.
Until you disassociate the other project from the detail category, you won't be able to use this category for the current project.
Scenario 2:
Or in another scenario, you tried to overwrite a detail but the Add to Project option was locked on the wrong project.
You need to disassociate the detail from the other project in order to overwrite the detail.
Cause
A single detail folder can only be assigned to one project at a time. Furthermore, a project cannot be assigned to a detail folder that is within another folder that is currently in use by another project.
For example, let's say we investigated by opening the project whose number is listed in the dialog box shown above (000002).
In this case, we opened that project and found that it's currently assigned to the folder P (or Projects).
Looking back at the Select detail folder for project dialog box, we can see that the folder Projects (P) is a parent category for the folder Awesome Waterslide Park.
Because the project 000002 (Example) is assigned to this parent folder, we'll be unable to assign a different project to any subfolder within this folder.
The solution to this issue is to disassociate the project with the parent folder. In our case, once the project 000002 Example is no longer assigned to the parent folder Projects (P), we'll be able to assign other projects to folders within that folder.
Solution
The coding required for our detail folder system makes it impossible to simply disassociate a project from a detail folder without assigning it to another folder. In other words, once you've assigned a project to a detail folder, it must always be assigned to a detail folder.
Fortunately, we can get around this minor snag by creating a new detail folder within our detail category system and assigning the project causing the issue (in our example, the project 000002 Example) to this new folder. So we'll do just that.
Step 1: Create a New Detail Folder and Assign It to the Project Causing the Issue
1. Using our Projects tool, open the Land F/X project that's blocking your other project's access to the detail folder (that is, open the project listed in the error message).
In our example, the project 0000002 - Example is listed in the error message, so we'll open that project.
2. The Project Manager will open. Click Browse.
3. The Select detail for your project dialog box will open. Highlight a detail folder, and click New.
You'll be creating a new detail category folder for this project within the selected folder, so give a little thought to which folder you select. (In our example, we'll create a detail folder within the category Commercial.)
4. Type a name and number for the new detail folder, and click OK.
In our example, we'll give it the same name and number as the project.
5. The project will now be associated with the new detail folder.
You'll see the folder path in the Detail Folder field of the Project Manager.
Step 2: Assign the Correct Project to the Detail Folder That Originally Caused the Issue&
Now that the original detail folder is free, you can associate it with the correct project.
1. Using our Projects tool, open the project you originally tried to assign to the folder.
4. The project will now be associated with the correct detail folder.
You'll see the folder path in the Detail Folder field of the Project Manager.
You should now be able to use the Detail Explorer to add details directly to the project by dragging and dropping.
