Random or Unwanted Linework Appears When You Open a Drawing
Issue
When you open a drawing file, an array of seemingly random linework is appearing in your view. You've tried to open other drawings and determined that the issue is not limited to a single drawing file.
Cause
Certain video cards can sometimes cause this issue. You can get rid of the random linework by changing a couple of AutoCAD settings.
Solution
1. Disable the Line Smoothing system variable: Type LINESMOOTHING in the Command line and press Enter. When prompted to select a value, select OFF.
AutoCAD or F/X CAD 2016 or 2017 users:
Before you can turn Line Smoothing off, you'll need to disable the High-Quality Geometry system variable. Type HQGEOM in the Command line and press Enter. Then type 0 when prompted to enter a value. You should then be able to complete Step 1 and disable Line Smoothing.
2. Still seeing the linework? Follow our steps to disable Hardware Acceleration.
