Hatches
September 6, 2024
Presented by: Jaymz Wooden
Hatches are a staple in the CAD world that make it easy to represent both areas and volumes in your design. Land F/X has improved and expanded these capabilities, increasing hatches' utility and versatility. We'll dive into the Land F/X hatch libraries, reviewing the newest hatch patterns and taking a look at how Land F/X manages hatches. We'll show you how to integrate your own custom hatches and develop a better understanding of the inner workings of the Land F/X hatch system as a whole.

0:00 – 5:07: Intro/TOC
5:08 – 6:44: What Is a Hatch?
- In AutoCAD, a hatch is a pattern or a solid fill that is generated automatically within a closed boundary to identify parts of a drawing.
- Components of a hatch:
- XML (.xml) file
- PAT (.pat) file
- Slide file (SLD or .sld)
6:45 – 9:42: AutoCAD Hatches vs. Land F/X Hatches
AutoCAD hatches:
- Single PAT (.pat) file.
- One location for all default hatches.
Land F/X hatches:
- Individual PAT (.pat) files
- Organized into hatch libraries
- AutoCAD hatches plus Land F/X hatches
- Automatic hatch scaling
9:43 – 11:06: Where Hatches are Stored
AutoCAD hatches are stored in a single PAT (.pat) file found at:
- C:\Users\{username}\AppData(hidden)\Roaming\Autodesk\AutoCAD 20xx\Rxx/x\enu\support
Land F/X hatches:
- PAT (.pat) files are stored in Local disk\LandFX\patterns
- XMLs are stored in Local disk\LandFX\Hatches
- Slides are stored in Local disk\LandFX\Hatches\respective library
11:07 – 13:18: Hatch Tools
AutoCAD:
- Basic Hatch tool
Land F/X:
- Hatch libraries
- Print Hatches
- P-Hatch
- Save Hatch
- MSLIDE
- Delete Hatch
13:19 – 16:33: How to Save Custom Hatches
- Back up your custom hatches in a specific folder.
- Add the specified folder to your Support File Search Paths.
- Run Print Hatches for desired library.
- Place and set up your custom hatches (scale and rotation).
- You can save the same hatch multiple times with unique names, scales, and rotations. Example: Light Rubble, Medium Rubble, and Heavy Rubble.
- Adjust window to 4:3 aspect ratio, which will produce the best preview slide.
- Run the Save Hatch tool.
16:34 – 17:12: How to Reshoot a Hatch Slide
- Place saved hatch.
- Adjust window to 4:3 aspect ratio.
- Zoom in so hatch fills the screen.
- Run MSLIDE command.
17:13 – end: Demonstration
