Groundcovers Won't Place on Toposolid Subdivisions in Revit® 2024 and 2025
Issue
You tried to place a groundcover on a toposolid subdivision and saw an error message that leads to this Knowledge Base article saying that you can't place on subdivisions, but you were previously able to do so.
Cause
We've moved to the much more beneficial type of parameters for all of our plants. Our legacy versions used instance parameters. In Revit 2024 and 2025, toposolids can have types, but subdivisions can't have different types from the parent toposolid.
With instance parameters, we could still put data on this, but with type parameters, there's no type to place the parameters on for the subdivision. Autodesk has stated in this idea post that they've accepted the idea for toposolid subdivision types to their roadmap, and we anticipate that this capability will be released soon. The benefit of type parameters is much greater than that of toposolid subdivision support.
Solution
To address this issue, split your toposolid into two toposolids for the subdivision space instead of using subdivisions. Other grading plugins are available to help with this process.
Keep an eye out for a future Revit version that supports toposolid subdivision type parameters, and our update notes as we support them as soon as they're available.
