Land F/X Version & Installer Numbers Explained
Land F/X users often ask us why they're running one of our installers that identifies itself as ver 20.20 but, as soon as they launch the software, complain that they're greeted by an update prompt and instead want an up-to-date installer with the latest version of the software. Here's what the version number means in each location, along with some clarification of why we don't update the installers at the same frequency as the plugin.
- Land F/X plugin installers
- F/X CAD installers
- Land F/X plugin version numbers seen within platforms (CAD, CAD, Revit, SketchUp, or Rhino)
Land F/X plugin installers
The version number on our plugin installers (Design F/X, Planting F/X, Irrigation F/X, F/X Server, F/X Workstation, Planting F/X for Autodesk® Revit®, as well as our Sketchup and Rhino plugins, is the version of the Land F/X plugin at build time of the installers.
- Our plugins receive extremely frequent updates to account for new features being implemented and bug fixes being rolled out. Due to the length of time required to rebuild, test, and validate all our installers and the fact that users can update the plugin easily and quickly while working in their respective piece of software, the installers are updated on a much less frequent basis.
- The version number on the installers themselves is generally for our internal tracking purposes so we can easily identify whether an important technical revision to our platform is installed on the user's station. The change to Chromium Web dialogs was one such revision that required additional components be installed on the workstation to function correctly. Another revision that would require updated installers would be new menus or when a new CAD engine is released.
F/X CAD installers
The version number on F/X CAD installers signifies the CAD engine update or service pack that's included in that release.
- Pre-2023 installers used the build numbers provided by Autodesk, which can make it difficult to determine which release/update bundle you may be using.
- 2023 and newer installers use a simpler identification method. For example, 2024 1.1.0 would be F/X CAD 2024 with the 1.0 CAD engine update applied. Due to changes in Autodesk's update deployment methods with later revisions, these updates are applied via separate tools and are no longer bundled in the base installation package.

The version number you may see within a software platform within which one of our plugins is deployed represents the version of the Land F/X plugin you're currently using. This version is updated within said software and generally does not require separate installation packages to be run.
