Error: Hatch Definition Not Found (Placing a Hatch)
Issue
You received the following error message when attempting to place a hatch:
Hatch definition not found
Cause
This error most commonly occurs when you have assigned a hatch to a groundcover or RefNote area on a previous or different installation or computer.
You have since migrated that project data to a different installation, which has a different hatch library.
Over the years, we've made some minor changes to the default hatch library. However, users are also welcome to add new hatches, so it's always a possibility that if you are operating off of a different installation, a particular hatch might not be available.
Solution
As an example, let's say you have a missing groundcover hatch, GROUNDCOVER001. That particular hatch pattern is not in the default Land F/X hatch library, yet previous installers (pre 2006) did have such a hatch pattern.
You have two options:
Option 1: Edit the Groundcover and Assign It With a New Hatch Pattern
If you are willing to select a different hatch for the item (in this case, a groundcover), simply edit the plant itself and select a new hatch pattern. You should even be able to choose a very similar, if not identical pattern. It just will not still have that same name (it might be GROUNDCOVER022 now, for example).
Option 2: Add The Original Hatch Pattern Back Into Land F/X Using Save Hatch
If you definitely want to use the original hatch, you can use our Save Hatch tool to save the exact same hatch with the exact same name into our system.
This process can be as easy as zooming in on the existing groundcover area, clicking Save Hatch, and then specifying the original name of the hatch.
Note: After saving the hatch into Land F/X, you should make a backup copy of your LandFX/Hatch folder in order to save your now custom hatch library. If you do so, you won’t have to go through this process again the next time you migrate to a new installation.
