Firewalls & Installation
A good firewall is an important component in any computer, protecting you from malware and other potentially damaging bugs. However, some firewalls are, shall we say, overzealous, in interfering with the installation of software that you actually want on your computer. A firewall can even prevent you from installing our software.
You may have received an error message similar to the following when attempting to install or use our software:
Unable to establish an Internet connection to the registration Server to validate your Support ID.
In this case, you'll need to:
1. Configure your TLS settings, and (possibly)
2. Disable a firewall on your computer
Disabling a Firewall
In some cases, you may need to disable a firewall on your computer temporarily in order to install our F/X CAD and/or one of our plugins. Once you've installed our software, you can then enable the firewall again.
Not sure which firewall you have? Or whether you have one at all? Ask your network administrator.
Disabling a Windows Firewall
1. Open your Control Panel and select Windows Firewall.
Depending on your version of Windows, you may need to select an option titled Systems and Security before you see the Windows Firewall option.
2. Check whether your Windows Firewall is turned on or off. If it's turned on, you'll see the word On next to the Windows Firewall State setting, as shown below.
3. To turn off your Windows Firewall, select the option to Turn Windows Firewall on or off in the left panel.
Don't see the option to Turn Windows Firewall on or off? You may instead need to click the option to Change settings.
4. Select the option to Turn Off Windows Firewall.
Once you've installed our software, you can re-enable your Windows Firewall by repeating the steps listed above, but selecting (checking) the Turn on Windows Firewall option when you get to Step 4.
You should now be able to install, activate, or use our software.
Disabling a Kaspersky Firewall
1. Locate and open the Kaspersky Internet Security application.
2. Click Settings.
3. Under Protection Center, select the Firewall Component option.
4. Uncheck the Enable Firewall option.
You should now be able to install, activate, or use our software.
Once you've installed our software, you can safely re-enable your Kaspersky firewall by repeating the steps listed above, but selecting (checking) the Enable firewall option when you get to Step 4.
Creating a Windows Firewall Exception
In some cases, you may need to create a Windows Firewall exception in order to install our software. To do so, follow our steps to create a Windows Firewall exception.
