Can Irrigation F/X Integrate with CIT's Space Pro Software?
Question
Does Irrigation F/X work with the Space Pro software from the Center for Irrigation Technology (CIT)?
Answer
We do not currently have any integration with Space Pro, although we've received a number of requests for it.
Although we would very much like to offer such a capability in the future, we're faced with several fundamental challenges that have prevented us from doing so:
- First is a simple matter of the scope of what would need to be engineered and the requisite cost. This is something we would like CIT to cover, as they are funded to the tune of several million dollars a year via grants and would benefit from additional sales of their enhanced software product.
- Second is a matter of capability and acceptable time. Space Pro offers an ability to analyze irregularly shaped areas with varying irrigation heads, but this feature is far too time-consuming. An ideal integration would be for our software to export the head type and placement to Space Pro to process – again pointing toward a solution that is predominantly on the CIT side.
- Finally, while we are able to keep our equipment database with the latest models (even input before their release), CIT has an approximate two-year backlog on data assessment and does not cover every emitter. Again, we would prefer this to be CIT's issue rather than requiring our users have to call us and ask why a certain uniformity display is not working.
As we explore more ag-specific functionality in the near future, we're sure this topic will come up more often. If you have a good contact at CIT, I would ask that you inquire what it might take for them to add an ability to import existing head locations.
