Can I Use the Same Symbol for Different Plants?
Issue
You want to use the same symbol for different plants.
Solution
Yes, it's possible to use the same symbol for different plants. If you're creating a Concept Plan, where you just want a single symbol to represent a number of species for "Street Tree," for example, you can best accomplish this by using the purpose-built Concept feature of the software. For more information, see our Concept Plants Manager documentation.
In a working drawing, if you just want to reuse the same symbol for multiple species, we instead recommend using similar symbols – but not the exact same one. Our Alphanumeric and Diagrammatic symbol libraries offer the same, if not similar, symbols – but with unique distinctions to each.
For the purposes of setting up a master plant list, it may well be necessary to assign the same symbol to multiple plants. The software used to require that you check a box in the Planting Preferences to allow duplicate symbols. However, you can now simply select the same symbol for different plants.
