Land F/X is a custom-developed program for landscape architects and irrigation designers that works in conjunction with your existing CAD platform.
Land F/X requires a CAD platform to operate.
Note: AutoCAD LT cannot run Land F/X per LT’s limited capabilities of running add-on software.
What if I don’t have CAD? (4:20)
That’s what our F/X CAD is for!
What is F/X CAD? (4:30)
F/X CAD is powered by CAD technology, supported and maintained by Land F/X. Have questions or need tech support? You can call us!
What about coming from hand drawing? (4:55)
F/X CAD and Land F/X is going to be your best entry into designing using software. The process will take a little longer because you’ll need to learn the basics of AutoCAD. However, if you want to stay in business, you’ll need to convert over to software.
F/X CAD vs. Land F/X (5:14)
F/X CAD is separate from a Land F/X license. F/X CAD functions as the CAD platform to add Land F/X onto.
F/X CAD cannot operate without Land F/X.
F/X CAD replacing your existing AutoCAD (5:50)
Will F/X CAD work for me?
Yes, if you do not need to use:
- Civil 3D
- AutoLISP
- AutoCAD 3D tools
Note: Most landscape and irrigation designers are using SketchUp for 3D rendering.
If you need the basic functionality of AutoCAD, F/X CAD will be perfect!
Note: We also offer a free 30-day trial. You can always request a trial and try it out for yourself with no obligation to purchase.
Comparison of AutoCAD & F/X CAD Ribbons (7:54)
Note: We’ve placed the tools on the Land F/X ribbons from right to left in the order in which you’d need to use them.

Our history (13:00):
Land F/X originated as a father-and-son project. David Farmer, a landscape architect, was having a hard time making AutoCAD meet his needs. Realizing that the program was quickly becoming the industry standard, he asked his son, Jeremiah, for help. After a decade of developing AutoCAD features specifically for landscape architecture, the pair realized they’d created something that everyone in the field could use. Now CEO and lead developer of Land F/X, Jeremiah continues to create time-saving tools that reduce tedium and increase accuracy in the design process for those in his father’s profession.
Already Using AutoCAD? Great! (14:20):
- CAD is the industry standard. We make it work for your profession.
- Not having to learn a completely new software
- Easy to train and learn
- Easy to integrate into existing standards
- Land F/X connects AutoCAD to SketchUp, so you’re not doing dual work.

You might need to re-evaluate your current CAD standards. Most CAD office standards have been created from the lack of CAD functionality. When implementing Land F/X, consider what a standard is, as well as why it exists. You can look at this juncture as an opportunity to enhance your standards rather than changing them. We can always improve, right?

The beauty of Land F/X is that it doesn’t require much “integration.” You are still within AutoCAD doing your basic CAD functions. You’re just now using specific tools for efficiency.
Note: When you purchase Land F/X, you’re also effectively purchasing the decade-plus of experience we’ve logged in dealing with literally thousands of firms, helping them set up and implement their standards, and building numerous capabilities of establishing and enforcing these standards right into the software. Determine What You Need (37:44):
Rule of Thumb: You may install Land F/X onto as many computer stations as you’d like, but the number of licenses you have is the number of people who can use the software at one time.
Mixed Office: Irrigation & Planting Design
You can have a mixed set of Land F/X & Irrigation F/X licenses. The License Manager allows you to share the functionality of the Irrigation license on multiple stations
What to Determine:
- How many employees are designing irrigation systems at one time?
- From there, you can work backward on how many licenses your office needs.
Example:
- 10-person office that includes 5 users who can do irrigation design.
- At most, 3 users might be designing irrigation at one time. The 5 people who would need the irrigation capabilities can share the 3 licenses. The rest of the office can be working with the Land F/X licenses. So the office’s license total can be 7 Land F/X & 3 Irrigation F/X licenses.
- That means 10 people can be working on planting plans, 3 of which can have additional access to the irrigation.
Note: Although Irrigation F/X includes Land F/X, it does not count as 2 separate licenses.
Question: Do I need Parallels to run the software? What’s a better choice: Parallels or Boot Camp? (40:30)
Answer: You’ll need Parallels or Boot Camp to run the software on a Mac. (Parallels is a program that allows you to run Windows-based programs, such as AutoCAD, on a Mac.) We recommend Parallels and don’t see any need to use Boot Camp over Parallels.
Question:Is F/X CAD a standalone license? (43:00)
Answer: Technically, the F/X CAD component is standalone, just like AutoCAD. However, it can connect to Land F/X license, data, and content on your server or on the cloud.
You don’t know you need Land F/X until you use it.
It’s not black and white: You can do almost everything in native AutoCAD that you can do using Land F/X, but it will take much longer and lead to more errors. Consider the time in revisions for missed labels or unaccounted-for plants. What about the headache of changing details, adding colorization, then uploading it all to SketchUp?
Why Buy? (46:45)
Increased Capabilities
- With the tedious processes automated, you can focus more time on how you want to design.
Time Savings
How much time do you currently spend on:
- Generating a schedule (we’ve heard an average of 1 to 2 hours)
- Counting plants & calculating hatches (we’ve heard 10 minutes at best)
- Labeling (we’ve heard an average of 1 to 2 hours)
- Color rendering (we allow you to do it in 3 clicks!)
Time saved x your pay = $$
That’s only with 4 Land F/X buttons. How much more time and money can you save with our help?
Staying Competitive
- Maximize the productivity of your current workforce while increasing business.
Cost
- Whether it’s evaluated as money saved, increased revenue, or the software paying for itself, is well worth the cost!
