New Irrigation Features
May 26, 2017
Presented by: Jake Lott
Our development team has been a bit busy, and it's definitely showing. We wanted to give you a peek at some of the new irrigation features we've added to Irrigation F/X. In this webinar, we'll show off everything from our new Pipe Data and pipe sizing dialog boxes to irrigation equipment templates, updated lateral verification and flow zone tools, equipment additions, revised symbols with background masks. Join us and get the inside scoop on what's new and exciting!

We’ve added a number of features that will help with each component of the irrigation design process.
We’ve added irrigation symbol blocks with background masks, which allow for greater legibility.
Overview of the symbol families and their source block files (7:30)
Note that, like all of our default blocks, the irrigation symbols are cloud based and downloadable on demand.
Deleting the symbol source files from the LandFX folder and re-placing a symbol to redefine an outdated symbol block in the drawing (8:50)
Replacing an irrigation symbol with another symbol using our Replace tool (9:35)
Dockable Palette for the Irrigation Manager (10:20)
Docking the Irrigation Manager allows you to work in your drawing while adding and placing equipment in the Irrigation Manager.
Redefining (updating) a block in a drawing using the Redefine Block command (11:15)
We’ve engineered the ability to import irrigation equipment into a project template.
Saving a project as a template (13:20)
Creating a new project based on the template and importing the irrigation equipment from that template (13:47)
Cross-checking the equipment’s performance data against the current performance data from the manufacturer (14:32)
Placing an imported component and checking its data to ensure it’s current (15:30)
Using the Replace tool (if necessary) to replace a component with the same model but with updated data (16:20)
Our SuperJoin tool is a great way to clean up existing linework by joining disparate segments and typing up loose ends.
Opening the SuperJoin tool and cleaning up linework (17:30)
Adding a system monitor to a project (21:12)
System monitors are available as caps under Auxiliary Equipment. You can place a monitor anywhere on the mainline. When you size the mainline, the monitor’s pressure and flow will be set automatically to the maximum the system can provide at that location.
Placing a system monitor on the mainline (20:30)
Sizing the mainline and checking the maximum pressure and flow indicated by the system monitor (21:10)
Adding a PCS screen to a project (22:33)
Selecting a symbol set for a drip symbol family (24:30)
Changing the spray radius of a head (27:00)
Our updated Pipe Data dialog box has tons of new features. For example, you can select up to 9 classes of lateral pipe, 6 classes of mainline, and 4 classes of sleeves.
Lateral pipe options (29:00)
Updated pipe class menus, Non-Potable option, and layer/linetype setting for pipe classes (29:00)
Mainline pipe options (30:56)
Polyline Width feature (31:10)
Pipe sleeve options (31:35)
We now offer 5 options for pipe sleeve linetypes.
Demonstration of the Polyline Width feature for mainline (32:40)
“K” for Keyboard Options (33:20)
We offer several keyboard commands for placing pipe and symbols. Type K when drawing pipe or placing equipment to see the available commands.
You can now freeze the layers that contain individual head types, which gives you the ability to make each individual type invisible for easier scanning of your system design.
Note that you can click on a valve callout to see the data for the valve it’s calling out. You can also click a valve callout when sizing your lateral pipe. The callout will act like a valve, allowing you to size the pipe for that valve by just selecting the callout. (37:30)
Overview of our updated Size Lateral Pipes dialog box & new features (38:10)
Note that you can now drop the Pressure Variation for your system, or for a single valve, to 0 in the Size Lateral Pipes dialog box. (40:05)
Option to use Spot Elevations when sizing the lateral pipes in your design (42:20)
If you've set up the Pipe Data properly, your pipe classes will automatically appear in size order in your drawing when you size your pipe.
We now support nested Flow Zones (that is, Flow Zones within Flow Zones).
The general rule for Flow Zones: As long as both ends of a section of pipe are contained within a Flow Zone, the pipe will be limited to the flow that’s been set for that Flow Zone.
Our updated Spot Elevation feature includes callouts that are Multileaders (MLeaders), different options for callout styles, and the ability to build multiple elevations into one callout.
Using Spot Elevations to calculate pressure loss through elevation when when sizing laterals (49:00)
Our updated Verify Laterals dialog box includes several error-checking features, checking for errant pipe fittings and callouts, circular pipe errors, unpiped heads, emitter areas with zero flow, and apparent pipe intersections.
Our updated Verify Mainline dialog box includes a set of error-checking features specifically for the mainline, checking for errant pipe fittings or callouts, invalid valve callouts, whether or not a controller has been placed, and whether or not valves are connected to a water source, have had their pipes sized, and have been called out.
Our Viewport Scale dialog box includes a Rescale Objects option that allows you to resize all objects in your drawing to a new scale you’re setting. In previous versions, this setting would often disconnect equipment from pipes when rescaling the equipment. We’ve updated this option to keep the equipment connected to the pipes.
Our Match Properties tool now recognizes nozzle types in heads you select, allowing you to replace a head with the same model but with a different nozzle type.
We’ve added several potential columns to our Valve Schedule tool, including number of heads, length of pipe, and several other possible data listings that can be recorded in the columns of your Valve Schedules.
Note: Our Match Properties tool also works on pipe. (1:00:15)
