Land F/X is a custom developed program for architects, landscape architects, and irrigation designers that works in conjunction with your existing CAD platform.

Land F/X requires a CAD platform* to operate.

*AutoCAD LT cannot run Land F/X. LT has limited capabilities of running add-on software.

What if I don’t have CAD?

That’s what our F/X CAD is for. F/X CAD is an Autodesk authorized AutoCAD engine supported and maintained by Land F/X.

Coming from hand drawing?

F/X CAD and Land F/X will be your best entry into transitioning to using the software. The process will take longer because you’ll need to learn the basics of AutoCAD. With the advances in technology, hand drawing is fading, and you will have to convert to using software.

F/X CAD vs. Land F/X

F/X CAD is separate from a Land F/X license. F/X CAD will act as your CAD platform, and you’ll add Land F/X as a plugin.

F/X CAD cannot operate without a Land F/X license. This is part of our contract with Autodesk. We are able to sell a CAD platform specifically to be run with Land F/X for our users.

F/X CAD replacing your existing AutoCAD

Many Land F/X users have chosen to switch over from full AutoCAD to F/X CAD.

If you are not using one of the following items and just need the basic functions of AutoCAD, F/X CAD is a great option for you.

It’s geared toward trial users. However, you can open it by typing LANDFX in the Command line and pressing Enter. You can go through a trainer for planting or irrigation. Each trainer is a 30-day series of “challenges” that introduce you to key components of the software.

Question: Can my office get personalized training? (17:05)

Answer: Yes, we offer paid personalized training sessions. But keep in mind that you can get everything you’d learn in the training for free in the training resources listed above.

17:54 – 25:35: Implementing Land F/X

It might be time to re-evaluate your standards. Most CAD office standards have sprung from lack of CAD functionality rather than design preference. When implementing Land F/X, consider what a standard is, as well as why it exists. Think of it as a silver lining: You have an opportunity to enhance your standards – not just change them.

You won’t have to do too much “integration.” You’ll still be working within AutoCAD, using your basic CAD functions – you’ll just be using an additional set of tools for efficiency and accuracy.

Question: Does the LandFX folder need to be in a shared location if I’m using the software between work and home? (19:33)

Answer: It’s a good idea. We recommend our Cloud Data option, which syncs up all your installations, and the latest versions of your custom content and data will be available online as soon as you’re ready to work. You can choose to host the LandFX folder on a single computer (a Single-User installation) if you want.

• Design F/X: $495 with a yearly renewal of $100
• Planting F/X: $1,495 with a yearly renewal of $400
• Design F/X: $2,995 with a yearly renewal of $600
• F/X CAD: $1,995 with a yearly upgrade of $500 per year (or $995 to upgrade 2 to 5 year versions)

Question: Does the yearly renewal for Irrigation F/X also include the yearly upgrade of F/X CAD? How often do I need to upgrade F/X CAD? (28:55)

Answer: No, it does not. Renewals for Irrigation F/X, Planting F/X, and Design F/X include your Land F/X license and all the support, training, etc. F/X CAD upgrades are $500 per year, or $995 if you skip 2 to 5 years.

Question: If we decide not to renew but then change our mind after a year or two, do we need to pay the initial fee again? (29:45)

Answer: No, you will not. You’ll just need to pay for your renewals for the years you skip.

Question: If we already have a Land F/X license and we purchase an additional license, will our renewals all come up on the dates of purchase? (30:16)

Answer: No. Once you purchase a new license, we’ll prorate your renewal date so your renewals will all fall on the same date. 

Determine what you need

Rule of thumb: You may install Land F/X on as many computers as you want, but the number of licenses you carry is the number of people who can use the software at the same time.

Mixed office: Irrigation and planting design?

Your office can have a mixed set of Land F/X and Irrigation F/X licenses. The License Manager allows you to share the functionality of the irrigation license on multiple stations.

What to determine: How many employees are designing irrigation systems at one time? From there, you can work backward on how many licenses you actually need.

Note: Although Irrigation F/X includes Planting F/X, it does not count as two licenses.

Question: Can multiple people use F/X CAD at once? (33:10)

Answer: No. As with Land F/X, you can install one F/X CAD license on multiple machines, but it can only be used on one machine at once.

Question: If I upgrade from Planting F/X to Irrigation F/X, do I still get the updates for Planting F/X? (33:20)

Answer: Yes. It’s treated as one piece of software.

Question: How often do you recommend upgrading F/X CAD? Do I have to renew each module (Irrigation, Planting, and Design) each year? (42:00)

Answer: You don’t have to upgrade F/X CAD each year, but we recommend it. If you don’t renew your Land F/X licenses (Irrigation, Planting, Design) each year, you lose access to updates, our latest cloud-based content, and tech support. If you have cloud data, you’ll lose functionality of the software itself.

Question: What if our office doesn’t upgrade F/X CAD for 5 years but want to upgrade after 5 years? (42:24)

Answer: In that case, you would pay $995 and be bumped up to the latest version of F/X CAD.
