Sheet Set Manager and Land F/X
October 29, 2021
Presented by: Amanda Marin
The AutoCAD Sheet Set Manager provides a fantastic method for coordinating large drawing packages with multiple DWG files. The Sheet Index, available within the Land F/X Project Manager, is another incredibly easy-to-use tool for organizing your drawing sheets. You may be familiar with these tools, but did you know they can work together to make your details easier to manage? We'll cover the specific roles played by the Sheet Set Manager and Sheet Index, then show you how to set them up for best use with your Land F/X projects.

5:02 – 8:35: Sheet Set Manager vs. Sheet Index
Sheet Index overview (5:29)
Comparison:
- The Sheet Index can read the Sheet Set Manager.
- The Sheet Index is a Land F/X version of keeping similar information.
- A way for the Detail Callout and Detail Manager tools to keep track without the Sheet Set Manager.
- Sheet Index is better than the Sheet Set Manager at certain tasks:
- See previews of details and linked images.
- Save and organize details.
- Place details on a sheet.
- Easier to label.
- Sheet Set Manager is better at other general tasks:
- Layout and drawing management.
- Open linked sheets quickly.
- Auto-filling title block fields.
- Batch plotting.
- Use them together to get it all!
8:36 – 10:46: Benefits of Learning and Using Sheet Set Manager
... even on smaller projects!
- Easier to plot, publish, or e-transmit the entire drawing set.
- Easier drawing setup workflow that matches best CAD practices (one drawing per sheet).
- Company-wide organization.
- Update many fields across all title blocks right before publish (revision date).
- Shows which files are open by somebody else.
10:47 – 41:34: New Sheet Set from Existing Drawing
Today's workflow in a nutshell:
Just start! Convert an existing drawing set.
- New sheet set
- Sheet Set Manager
- Drop-down open
- New sheet set
- Best practice: one layout per drawing
- Make your title block use fields that talk to the Land F/X Sheet Index
- Update templates
- Adjust workflow for future drawing sets
- Create DWG files just for Model Space work
- Let the Sheet Set Manager take over creating sheets (layouts)
Opening the Sheet Set Manager from the Project Manager or the F/X Details ribbon (12:30)
Overview of the Sheet Set Manager (13:14)
Creating a new sheet set (14:39)
Naming the sheet set (16:35)
Where to store the sheet set data (DST) file (17:21)
Why you should organize your DWG files into folders instead of storing them directly in the Documents folder or a similar location (18:21)
Why you need to store the DST file in a top-level folder rather than a side folder (20:23)
Choosing layouts to include in the sheet set (21:17)
Benefits to creating a sheet set (22:26):
- You can quickly double-click any of the sheets and automatically open them in your drawing.
- It's easy to see when a file is open and in use, along with who has it open and when it was last edited.
- You can publish the sheets without having them open.

Editing attributes (35:24)
We recommend not using the Enhanced Attribute Editor to make your edits because it allows other users to overwrite your changes.

41:35 – end: Make a Template DST
Important first step: Before turning a sheet into a template, delete it from the sheet set to prevent future sheets based on the template from defaulting to this current sheet set. (41:50)
Saving the sheet as a DWT (template) (42:49)
Updating the title blocks on the other sheets (43:15)
Deleting the title block definition from the rest of the layouts to clear its block definition and allow it to update correctly (43:49)
Adding the title block back (44:13)
Testing the template (45:09)
