CSI Placement for detials not sure of

To have the most recent customized list of CSI divisions, make sure you set your Standard Library Division List in your Detail Preferences to either Landscape Architecture or Architecture.

Those have most of the standard CSI divisions plus so extras and some edits for Landscape Architecture where we felt the standard divisions were not clear enough for organizing Landscape Architecture and Irrigation details.

Then you can always add more divisions or edit/delete as needed.

Here's more information on this. Let me know if you have any followup questions after trying that out.

I have been using Landscape Architecture Detail Preferences. I'll have to make calls on where to place these details in there for some details. CSI is US and Canadian but is used elsewhere too. I have seen some instances of it being used in the UAE and know it's used mainly in KSA (Saudi) and Kuwait. Not sure if it's the prevalent standard though out here in UAE. Can someone from these parts share their knowledge and experience regarding what they are using?

I'd also like to see how popular other widespread standards are that people use in other regions (like UAE).

We'd like to expand that Library list more, and had a few that we were looking at but will absolutely seriously consider integrating any recommendations that come up in this forum post. We only started with CSI.

Also, Asif, if you ever want run certain details by my in a ticket or forum post to get an opinion on where it should go, I'd love to help.

I've been pouring over those categories for over a decade and know them very well. Seaweed does this frequently with Jake and I for irrigation divisions and it usually results in me agreeing there's a hole in the available divisions and helping decide on a good division number to add. Then we put the suggestion in our version so everybody benefits.

I have a huge library of details that we use of the 7 municipalities, namely ADM (Abu Dhabi Municipality) and DM (Dubai Municipality) and a plethora of consultants. ADM has a Quality Contol marked PDF (not to be tampered with) that they enforce to use as details. The problem is calling them out on the Mainline, sub-main, drip, bubbler and sprinkler/rotor/rotary layouts. I had spoken to Jake about it in the recent past.
I can see that placing these standards from the Municipalities and Consultants is a big task and is going to take me a long time. I can share sheets, CAD/PDF with either of you and get pointers on where to place them in the divisions. The tricky part will be ( I am assuming) ROW and Road crossings for the irrigation and the like.
I have attached a screenshot of the 'shrub and ground cover details' commonly used here (prolly elsewhere too). We can start with it.

I do love that one - it was my 3rd webinar as a guest presenter here! I agree, it's probably time for a re-do. Thanks for the idea, I'm adding to my topic list!

This newer one covers a lot of the feature updates since that webinar, although doesn't repeat the core of the "Why use CSI" message, it just shows off all the benefits of using it. To be fair, I think "Why use CSI" is more of a "Why use a widespread standard organization system", but I do like the main aspect of using a system with numbers, not letters due to the more universal understanding. The long-term end goal would be one accepted standard worldwide, somewhere in the future.

Asif, I don't think we're at the point of being able to save each city's standard details into the library.
As for how to organize those details into the CSI folders, I like creating a "00 - Municipality" folder as a level 3 folder. This gives room to create custom sub-folders within it for each city, then the details. Then train staff to always look in that folder first to see if the municipality that they're working on is already in there. This separates a municipality standard tree planting detail for your more generic office standard tree detail.
You would have multiple level 2 Municipality folders across the divisions

Example, you would have all of these:
32 (Exterior Improvements), 14 (Unit Paving), 00 (Municipality), 13 (Abu Dhabi Municipality)
32 (Exterior Improvements), 93 (Planting), 00 (Municipality), 13 (Abu Dhabi Municipality)
This way, the folder is in your face right before you try to pick a standard detail, and you don't have to wade through a massive list of all of the city's details, short lists of just plant, just paving, just irrigation is more digestable.
These folders will then also all pop up when you use the search function at the top of the detail explorer to search "Abu Dhabi".

I have been doing a lot of digging around and reaching out, along with a tedious irrigation audit. Hence the delay in the response. The digging around and reaching out paid off, largely. I have someone I know that has been doing specifications all their career and current working as 'Regional Specifications Manager', so the information is as good as it gets.
CSI is used quite a lot here and only twice has my acquaintance have to work is NBS (National Building Specification) that which is a UK based system and is solution based. Requested by UK based organisations. So CSI is a safe bet to go with here (U.A.E.), Saudi and Kuwait for sure.

This sounds like a good solution for organising the details municipality and consultant wise. Couldn't have improved it even if I wanted to . I understand Land F/X cannot have each municipalities details uploaded to the cloud. I was looking into having a local copy and an copy of my own on the cloud with the system you just laid out. Can by done right?

Fantastic! Both that CSI will work best for you (this is great info to have here in the forum for other U.A.E. users) and the recommendation for the occasional NBS (National Building Specification) which is something on our radar. Thanks!

Are you saving your Details folder in a Shared Online Folder setting? Just want to make it clear here, since we're in a public forum, that Land F/X doesn't save any actual detail .DWG files in a cloud setting on its own, but you can locate the Details folder on another cloud service such as Dropbox or Google Drive, if you like. We actually require this setup to be installed with local syncing to better accommodate frequent file updates in the Details folder.
