Is there a way to show the plant symbols in the plant schedule? I have put them there manually, but then they show up in the plant count in the schedule.

Yes, you can generate a planting schedule with plant symbols. This option is in the plant schedule settings dialog box that pops up before you are able to place the schedule. For more information on this, check out our documentation page on planting schedules.
