More SketchUp Resources
SketchUp is an amazing tool that can be enhanced with third-party rendering tools and tutorials. Here are some resources we've put together for you.
Tutorials and Learning
Land F/X friend Daniel Tal is a world-class SketchUp educator who has developed wonderful tutorials, geared toward landscape architects, on this powerful 3D modeling software. Check out his website, www.danieltal.com to learn the basics and intricacies of SketchUp.
Third-Party Rendering Engines
Just a few years ago, rendering engines like those listed below commanded tens of thousands of dollars. Now they're available for a few hundred dollars – an incredible price for photorealistic 3D renderings. Why use a third-party rendering engine with SketchUp? Because in the name of faster performance, SketchUp only provides one light source (the sun). It doesn't provide ray tracing or multiple light sources, including nighttime. Third-party rendering engines can add these additional light sources to your models, capturing the true nuances of lighting that can take them to the next level.
- Shaderlight: A great third-party rendering tool for SketchUp.
- Twilight: Another excellent third-party rendering tool for SketchUp.
- Twilight Render resources: Twighlight Render offers a wealth of tutorials for getting to know this rendering tool.
- Fotosketcher: Make a hand-drawn look from a SketchUp design.
- Cinema 4D: Create high0quality graphics with ease using this intuitive, user-friendly tool.
- Lumion: Lumion allows you to bring your 3D model to life with real-time model animation and lighting effects, resulting in lifelike presentation graphics and 3D models. Try using our 3D Connection to import nodes of your plants from CAD into SketchUp and then export those nodes quickly to Lumion to coordinate plants. More information
- Rendering add-ons for SketchUp: Great roundup of rendering options
- Thea Render: Biased, Unbiased and GPU renderer with a powerful material system and its own advanced studio.
- Ensign: A virtual reality (VR) and real-time rendering SketchUp plugin.
- SketchFX Pro (for applying visual filters and effects to images) and SketchFX Ex (includes the ability to apply effects to animations): Extremely fast visualization plugins that allow your to create visually compelling illustrations of your 3D models, choosing from a range of many artistic styles, with a single click.
