User Permissions Required by AutoCAD or F/X CAD
Issue
Some networks require you to have Full Control permission for specific folders and registry entries on your computer for AutoCAD or F/X CAD to function properly. You may need to verify these permissions to address an error message or other issue.
Solution
Folders
AutoCAD or F/X CAD may require you to have "full control" (or read and write) access to the following folders. How to grant permissions for a folder
- C:\ProgramData\Autodesk
- C:\ProgramData\FLEXnet
- C:\Program Files\Autodesk (or another location wher you're installed AutoCAD or F/X CAD on your computer AutoCAD)
- C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared
- C:\Users\username*\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk
- C:\Users\username*\AppData\Local\Autodesk
- C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk
- C:\Users\username*\AppData\Local\Temp (or another location where your temp directory is stored)
* where username is your computer username
You might also need permissions for other CAD components. For example, you'll need write access to the folder C:\Program Files\Fonts if you want to add SHX font files.
Registry entries
To change the permissions on a registry key, follow our instructions open the Registry Editor and then change the permissions on the key, giving Full access to yourself or the user who needs to have permission.
AutoCAD and F/X CAD require the permissions for the following keys to be set to Full Control for the user, as well as for the System and Administrator roles:
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\AUTODESK
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\AUTODESK
