You Must Select a Division (Saving a Detail)
Issue
You attempted to save a detail using our Save Detail tool, but you were unable to save the detail and instead saw the following message:
You must select a division.
You may also have seen the error message Error: 'bad argument type: stringp'.
Cause
The Details Preferences screen includes an option to Set numeric division for all details
Selecting this option creates a Division button in the Select Detail Number dialog box, which you see when you attempt to save a detail.
In this case, you won't be able to save a detail unless you select a CSI division for that detail.
Solution
Your solution will depend on whether you want to be able to select CSI divisions for your saved details. Note that if you have this option selected, you will be required to select a CSI division whenever you save a detail.
This option requires a strong familiarity with CSI among your team, as well as a desire to save all details with a CSI number. If this is not the case, and if you do not work for a large firm that does large numbers of projects across the globe, we recommend having this option unchecked in the Details Preferences. For more information on this option, please see the Set numeric division for all details section of our Details Preferences documentation.
Option 1 (most offices): You don't want to be required to select a CSI division for every saved detail.
Open the Details Preferences, and uncheck the option to Set numeric division for all details.
You can then resave your detail without having to select a division. The Select Detail Number dialog box will no longer include the Division button.
Option 2: You want to be required to select a CSI division for every detail you save.
If this is the case, you simply need to select a CSI division and subdivision for each detail you save. For instructions, see our Selecting CSI Divisions for Your Details documentation.
