Land F/X Included Fonts Update: Removing SHX and Only Offering TTF (October 2023)
We've done a complete overhaul of all our default fonts, including those you can assign to your Land F/X Text Styles. This update will ensure that all fonts available for use with your Land F/X installation are up to date and legal to use. If you'd like to see all the fonts we now include, check them out here.
In pushing this update, we've discontinued and replaced many of our existing fonts, which has required us to license and create some entirely new fonts. We've done our best to provide 1-to-1 replacements for some fonts while replacing others with an entirely new font.
Specifically, we've dropped all SHX font types. From now on, all our fonts will be TrueType (TTF) fonts.
Why are we replacing SHX fonts with TTF fonts?
Unlike SHX fonts, TTF fonts offer the following advantages:
- More complete character sets
- Vastly superior PDF support
- Higher clarity in PDF
- Can be imported from PDF
- No scaling or display issues
- Fewer plotting issues
For more information, see our Mastering TrueType Fonts webinar. Our comparison of TTF with SHX begins at 9:12 in the video.
Discontinued SHX fonts
We've removed the following SHX fonts from the software:
- Architect Text (architxt.shx)
- AvantGarde (avantg-f.shx)
- Swiss Shape (helvetm.shx)
- Helvetica Open (helveto.shx)
- Serpent Bold Open (serpenbo.shx)
If you've used one or more of these fonts in a drawing file, you may see a Missing SHX files error message when opening one of those drawings, or when attempting to open a Land F/X tool that uses fonts, such as a scheduling or labeling tool. For our suggested alternatives to each of these discontinued SHX fonts, use the corresponding link above.
Note that you should be able to continue using these fonts if you've have purchased them previously.
Discontinued TTF font (removed from default Text Styles)
We've replaced the following font with the Graphite family of fonts in our default Text Styles:
If you've used ITC Stylus Bold in a drawing file, you may see a Missing TTF files error message when opening one of those drawings, or when attempting to place a plant label or Photo Callout. For instructions on what to do if you see this error message, use the link above.
